Ubiquitous Networking and Computing (UBINEC) is an innovative start-up company developing powerful, yet easy-to-use solutions to manage Smart Networked Environments.

UBINEC’s core business is related to the Internet of Things (IoT) which is an integrated part of the Future Internet and could be defined as a dynamic global network infrastructure with self configuring capabilities based on standard and interoperable communication protocols where physical and virtual things have identities, physical attributes, and virtual personalities and use intelligent interfaces, and are seamlessly integrated into the information network.

UBINEC was founded in 2010 after a successful participation in the Cyprus Entrepreneurship Competition (CyEC 2009) with an idea on “Wireless Power Monitoring and Control”. In the following three years it has designed and prototyped the “smart plug” and provided a variety of connectivity options for it. At the end of 2013 the founding members decided to re-focus their activities on Energy Efficiency Intelligence and they started developing a new idea – called VIRIDOM - that moves from the hardware and communication protocols to the interface and Software-as-a-Service domain.

Since this change of direction, the VIRIDOM solution received recognition and prizes at Startup Weekend CY 2013, the Digital Championship of Cyprus 2014, and the Cyprus Entrepreneurship Competition (CyEC’14). VIRIDOM was a finalist in the GR/CY CleanLaunchpad 2014 Competition. VIRIDOM has been accepted to the 2015 Rockstart Smart Energy Accelerator in Amsterdam, selected between more than 200 applications worldwide.
